The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition is the world’s largest school writing competition, founded in 1883. With thousands of young people participating every year, it is an important way to see success, raise the voices of young people and develop valuable skills through creative writing.

In 2021 the theme of the Competition is Community in the Commonwealth. With the global spread of COVID-19, we have seen the lives of many Commonwealth citizens affected. However, through hardship, communities came together and issues of growth, community and hope continue to emerge.

The Society has a rich history of nurturing young creative talents in the Commonwealth and we strive to promote literacy, expression and art by celebrating excellence and excellence. The competition invites all citizens and young citizens of the Commonwealth, regardless of region, education or background, to share ideas, celebrate their story and hear their voice. In partnership with Book Aid International, Worldreader and the National Literacy Trust, the Society is working to increase access to this opportunity for more young people.

The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay competition offers the recipient the following benefits:
– All entrants receive a Certificate of Participation and the winner and Trainee from the Senior and Junior categories will win a trip to London for a week of academic and cultural events.

– Prizes are traditionally awarded only to first prize winners in the adult and Junior categories and also vary from year to year. This means that they cannot guarantee what the prizes will be until after the announcement of the winners in August 2021. Previous awards are included:

Qualifications for the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition

To participate in the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, the following are the following:

Required Language: All entries must be in English.
Eligible countries: Citizens and citizens of all countries and Commonwealth areas 18 years and under are eligible to enter the competition, including entries from Zimbabwe.
Submissions are welcome to residents of non-Commonwealth countries who ship through their local RCS branch.
Entrants are admitted in any form / artistic writing style. Pictures / Illustrations are especially popular in the junior category.

The Royal Commonwealth Society is developing a new online platform that will be very easy to use and accessible to all devices, but it is not yet ready.
They are encouraging young people to start writing their pieces and will open a new presentation platform in early 2019.

Offline submissions are very difficult to process and may mean that your entry comes after the closing date of the contest. They will only accept offline where the person submitting has no access to the internet and is unable to submit online.
