CONVERSATIONAL-CLIMATE SKILLS In Agriculture Extension
WHAT IS “CONVERSATION”
“Conservation is defined as an interactive talk or communication between two or more people.”
Conversation is also defined as” An oral exchange on ideas,opinions and observations”
(by Samuel Johnson).
How we can create good conversational climate or the skills required to create.
CONVERSATIONAL SKILLS In Agriculture Extension
- BE FRIENDLY AND POLITE
Simple means that when conversation going on at that time you should be friendly and polite. Other person to whom you are talking do not feel odd. Keep you tune soft and normal. Use the normal language words not even use the difficult words that other person don’t understand it. Don’t use the fool language. Don’t use the bitter words for other people.
- PROPER LISTENING
Respond to other person properly and focus on what he/she is speaking. Also note the body gestures of the person. Note that what he/she is speaking next.
- USE OF SIGNALS OR ASKING QUESTIONS
When conversation is going well and you are finding difficulty to say to other person that now his/her turn to speak then you may use some signals and gestures. Or simply you may ask the question.
Are you enjoying the conversation? What are you doing today? If you don’t know what to say next simply ask the question.
- CREATE EMOTIONAL CONNECTION
If conversation is too small and nothing to say then create emotional environment. Tell about your interest, hobbies. Ask about the other person interests. This will help in creating long conversation.
- CREAT CONVERSATION FLOW
Conversation flows happen when your conversation flow is smooth, effortless and comfortable. And there is no sence of that what to say next. If the conversation is not smooth then principle of “Invitation and Inspiration” comes.
Invitation include that ask your partner to say.
Inspiration means say something that make your partner want to speak unbidden.
This will keep the conversational flow smooth.
- HOLD CONFIDENCE/OPEN BODY LANGUAGE
Good body language assured you against others. Well dressed , stand erect , make eye to eye contact and relaxing your hands. This will give confidence to you and helpful in good conversation.
- GROW IN SELF KNOWLEDGE
Know about yourself that who you are? What are you interest? What you can do? If you don’t have knowledge about yourself then your conversation will not be smooth.
- KNOW ABOUT BASIC CONVERSATION ETIQUETTE
This include how to start the conversation and how to keep going conversation. How to talk with youngers and elders?
Your tune, anger etc also include in etiquettes.
- KNOW ABOUT CURRENT KNOWLEDGE
Know what’s going on these days. For this listen the news, by searching on media. This will help in long conversation.
