vibrio parahaemolyticus

Vibriosis
It is also known as bovine genital campylo bacteriosis .It’s a reproductive disease of cattle .The causative agent of this disease is campylobacter fetus. The organism passes through the cervix of infected cow and settled in uterus .This condition lead to endometritis (swelling of lining of tuberous ). This disease is also present in sheep. This bacteria is present in germs of bull .During mating it’s transmitted to healthy animal. This bacteria can lives in bull for 2-3 years .When first time mated with infected bull it’s production decreases up to 40%.And when 2nd time mated with with same infected bull this percentage decreases up to 70%.If same process is repeated again animal loses it’s ability to give birth to calves .It is a common cause of infertility and abortion in all cattle breeding areas. This bacteria is present in lining of reproductive tract .Compylobacter is a gram negative bacteria .Compylobacter spp can be destroyed by heating and drying.This disease is present in cattles, dogs, sheeps, cats.Vibriosis and its effect on human being
Causes
* This disease is caused by mating infected bull with susceptible cows and heifers.
* Artificial insemination can also be a cause of this disease.
* Ingestion of contaminated water and feed.
* Contaminated bedding
* Contaminated instrument
Signs and Symptoms in Sheeps
Abortion
The abortion number increases with passage of time .Subcutanous edema is found in aborted fetus. Before abortion ewe looks weak.
* Brown discharge from vagina for several days after abortion.
* Low birth rate, calves are produced weak and insstantly died.
* Poor milk supply
* Breeding season extends
In cattle
* No definite signs appears in bulls
* Infertility and abortion in cows. abortion is usually between 5-7 months.conception rate may drop upto 40%in newly affected herd.
* Cows are not ready to mate with male
* Low birth rate
* Early death of embryo
* Non uniform estrus
* Longer calving season
* Infection in uterous
* Due to obstacle in fallopian tube about 10% of infected females become permanently infertile.
* In cattles cows become infected by mating with infected bulls but this mode of transmission is not observed in sheeps .Study shows that infection in sheep is not due to ram.vibrio parahaemolyticus
Diagnosis
* Breeding history
* VMAT( vaginal mucus agglutination test)
* Flourescent antibody test
* ELISA
* Test breeding heifers
* Perpertual washing from the port channel maker from cows
* Obtain fresh sample from infected sheeps and test them in lab.
Prevention and control
* Cows naturally develop immunity against the disease and breed again.
* Diagnose the infected rams and isolate them healthy sheeps.
* Provision of clean drinking water .
* Vaccinate cows and bulls 30 days before breeding .
* Vaccination must be repeated every year.
* Vaccinate the animals at least 30 days before joining.
* Use of artificial insemination because in artificial insemination semen is treated with antibiotics that eliminate disease organism
* The chances of this disease is more in older bulls so older bulls should be removed from herd. vibrio parahaemolyticus

ALSO SEEE
Transmission
* Vibriosis is a sexually transmitted disease.
* Placing young bulls with older bulls .
* Attack of bull from nearby form may also be a source of infection.
Treatment
* Treat animal with antibiotics
* Culling in older bulls
* Streptomycin at 20mg/kg with 5g of streptomycin in oil based suspension .Applied to penis for 3 days.
* Vibrovax in bulls 2-5ml after 4-6 weeks,in heifers (less than 18 years) 2 initial doses of 5ml 4-6 weeks apart,heifers and cows (nore than 18 years ) 1 initial dose of 5ml. vibrio parahaemolyticus
* Vibrin
* Breeding rest
Vibriosis effects on human being
This bacteria can also cause diseases in humans. Peoples with weak immune system and direst contact with animal are more likely to get this disease
